Yes, and besides simply knowing what it looks like, here’s a test: roll it between your fingers. Nutsedge has almost triangular foliage. You will feel it.

Sedges have edges.

Indeed. The base is where it’s super obvious.
Ortho Nutsedge Killer works just as well and comes in a hose-end sprayer if you don’t want to mix a tank every time it pops back up.

This. I’ve had great results with the Ortho version.

Came to say the same thing - it works great, one of the few big box store chemicals that does exactly what it says.

Works better actually in my experience.
@Isan
Quicker for sure! Nothing like crispy brown nutsedge 24 hours later.

More likely to need a respray than halosulforon, but it’s worth it for how fast it knocks it down.
Plus, sulfentrazone is one of the few things that works on goosegrass (at least in cool season).
@Zion
I just nuked my yard because it was so out of control with goosegrass.

Thanks for the info.
Yes it is. I had an infestation just as bad as yours and tried everything. I was about to get on my hands and knees and start painting what felt like half my yard with a fingernail brush and glyphosate. I bought some off-brand stuff on Amazon called Empero. Within 2 days, it wasn’t growing as fast like everything else did. After 2 or 3 weeks, I finally saw some brown. After about a month or month and a half from spraying, I had 3 new ones that sprouted since I sprayed, but the original 600 or more were dead. It’s now been 3 months since, and I recommend that stuff to anyone!
@Wylie
Empero is a great option. Works well on yellow nutsedge and green kyllinga. Not as effective on purple nutsedge that pops up later in the season, but it’s late season, and it will die off anyway.
Empero does have a significant residual effect that inhibits seeding - we allow for 4 weeks post-application before effective seeding.
Sedgehammer and Vexus are great if you like spending money.
Buy sulfentrazone under the QualiPro brand. I think it’s called Expell. It’s about as cheap as you can get. 0.1oz/1000sqft. Doesn’t require surfactant but works better if you use some Dawn dish soap or a proper surfactant.
The nutsedge looks better than the grass, to be honest. Not sure what your plan is, but if you kill it off, it will just grow back where your grass is thin or nonexistent, or some other weed will take its place.
@Drew
It is where I was regrowing Bermuda after a playground sat on it for several years. This is actually an old picture; it has filled in and looks pretty good now.
@Drew
Right? Just use Roundup on the entire thing and start over in a month.

Glyphosate does not work well on nutsedge. Maybe if you use it at an ungodly rate, but that’s another story.
Yup, that looks like nutsedge.
