When did you start getting serious about lawn care

I’ve always loved mowing since I was a kid, but I didn’t realize how good a lawn could look until I started working at 16. Now I’m 19 and making some great stripes at home and on the job.

The 2024 Lawn of the Year contest is going on! You have until September 30th to submit your lawn. If you’re proud of it, give it a go! Submit your entry here.

Same. About three years in now, and I’ve learned a lot!

Same here lol

When I bought my first house and realized I was spending two hours a week mowing and pulling weeds. Figured if I’m spending that much time, I may as well make it look good.

I was into it as a kid because my dad would take me along on the lawn mower. Then I hated it when I realized he tricked me into liking it so I’d do it as a teen. Now I love it again and plan on doing the same thing to my kids!

Didn’t mind mowing but really got into weed control and seeding at 32 after replacing a retaining wall. It took off from there. Just finished a 20k sqft rehab on my new place.

I was 5 years old when I started mowing with a 70s Cub Cadet 108.

My husband and I got our first house in our early 20s (2003), so since then I guess. He handled the lawn stuff until last spring when he was diagnosed with a chronic illness, so I took over. It’s actually pretty relaxing.

I was 31 when I bought my first house.

In college. I started buying properties around campus with bad financing, but it worked. My school had a great agriculture program, so I got to take some really useful lawn care classes.

Growing up it was a chore. Becoming a dad made it a hobby.

Didn’t care until I got a house with a yard. Now I have all the tools: compost spreader, fertilizer spreader, dethatcher, M18 edger and trimmer combo, blower, sprinklers, hoses, retractable hose reel, pump and battery sprayers, granular and liquid fertilizer, iron, humic acid, kelp, tenacity, prodiamine… the whole setup.

This year. I lived in a condo for over 20 years, but now I’m back in a house with a yard—actually a front and back yard! The lawn is mostly dead, though, so I’m starting from scratch. I’ve got no clue what I’m doing, but my neighbors are gonna see my lawn work and tan lines!
