I tried a general weed and feed, which helped with clover and dandelion. But this broadleaf weed is everywhere and seems resistant to store-bought products.
I’m in the Midwest where it gets good sun but has a few hours of shade each day.

Try Triclopyr Ester. It’s $20 on Amazon.

I had this all over my yard and got serious about getting rid of it. Three applications (one per week) did the trick. Now I just have some spot treating left, but I’m winning.
Wild violets are tough. If you find a way to get rid of them long term, let me know.

Use T-Zone SE. It works wonders on wild violets.

They will go away with consistent herbicide use. A sprayer is better than weed and feed. Use pre-emergent in the spring. I’m dealing with them now. They are persistent and come right back if you don’t keep treating.
@Abi
I’m no expert, but I heard pre-emergent doesn’t work on wild violets. You have to spray the leaves while they are growing. Triclopyr is the way to go.

That’s correct.
Pre-emergents usually don’t work for most broadleaf weeds. Tenacity covers more than others, but it still doesn’t cover many.

I think this is the same weed I have in my backyard. You mentioned wild violet. Does it have flowers?
@Denny
Yes, it flowers if you don’t mow it. Mostly purple, but I think there are other varieties too. Some people let them take over the lawn. You can mow them and they don’t mind; they just might not flower.
Edit: Embrace wild violets
@Devi
Interesting. Thanks for the info. I will check if that’s what is growing in my backyard. It seems to be spreading a lot. I have never seen a flower, but they do get mowed with the rest of the lawn.

I tackled a big infestation with Tenacity.
My yard had a lot of wild violets, but I’m now wild violet free. It took several applications of Ortho weed B gone, and I spot sprayed with Roundup too. It was a hassle, but I haven’t seen them since.

Good advice. I agree.
I usually have good luck with Ortho Weed-B-Gone for most broadleaf weeds, but I’m not sure about this one.
Edit: Another user mentioned getting the Weed-B-Gone concentrate with chickweed, clover, and oxalis killer. That might be even better!
It looks like wild violet. Spray it with something that has Triclopyr or Fluroxypyr, and do it now (in the fall).

Monterey Spurge Power (it has triclopyr). I use it with a surfactant. It’s the only thing that has worked for me.

I’ve had better luck in spring. By summer or fall, they get a bit waxy and are tougher to kill.
