These mounds are starting to pop up more regularly. In the Charlotte, NC area
You’re gonna need a driver’s license and a clean record.
12-28 gauge, a lawn chair, case of beer and a few days off work will take care of them.

Love it.
Is this area consistently wet? This looks like crawfish.

That’s what I was thinking. When you see like balls of mud, that’s how they dig their homes.

Same, live outside of RVA and it looks a lot like crawfish.
Looks like crawfish mounds to me. They look stomped/kicked over if that is what they are though. If there’s a water source nearby or that area is regularly wet, it could be something to consider.
I had one this summer. I used three different poisons that I stuffed down its tunnel, sprayed the lawn with castor oil, and used 8 solar vibrating spikes. Each spike is good for 800 sq ft. I used all 8 around my 700 sq ft front lawn. It’s either dead from the poison, deaf and gone crazy from the vibrating spikes, or repelled from the castor oil. I basically threw the kitchen sink at it. No signs of it since. Not sure which method worked or if it was a combination of them.
@Keelan
Wouldn’t castor oil smother the grass?
I did not have any issues:

Looks like moles to me. Gopher mounds tend to be bigger.

Agreed. Too small for gophers. Almost looks like mudbug mounds, but I can’t really tell what I’m looking at in the pictures.

Definitely not moles. Moles make little raised tunnels, not these mounds of pellets.

C4. That’s what my man Carl used; it’s much more moldable into friendly looking creatures that it may like and want to chat with.
