Irrigation is Totally Worth It...!

Hey folks…Im living in the Northeast, I don’t always need irrigation, but man, when you do, it’s a game changer! We get those stretches in summer where rain doesn’t show up for weeks, and without irrigation, my lawn would suffer big time.

I’ve got a 3-year-old Kentucky Bluegrass lawn (mostly TwinCity Blue Envy Mix) that I take pride in. I do 4 feedings a year and add grub control for good measure. My lawn stays lush and healthy thanks to irrigation during the dry spells, and it’s been such a relief not having to worry about dragging hoses around.

As for the setup, I did everything myself…fully irrigated with zones across my yard to ensure even coverage. My 61” SCAG Cheetah 2 mower makes keeping the lawn neat a breeze too.

If anyone’s curious about the system I used, the process, or just general lawn care tips, feel free to ask! Happy to help fellow lawn enthusiasts.

Nice if you can afford it…Very nice lawn though.

It’s not just the installation but also the water and maintenance that add up. I have around 5,000 square feet of lawn, and just watering for a fall overseed costs me about $400.

I have a well, so outside of the electricity to run the pump, it’s $0

How deep is your well, and flow rate? I have about a 6gpm and have been on the fence for a bit due to worrying about well running dry or not lasting more than 15/20 years for normal house stuff

I have lived in Chicago. Water costs $4.70 for every 1,000 gallons, and shower heads can only use 2 gallons per minute. So, a 5-minute shower costs less than 5 cents.
