Ideas for dealing with a large amount of leaves

Looks like my yard. I blow some into the woods, mulch some into the grass, and burn a lot.

A lot of cities offer leaf pickup if you just pile them at the curb.

I use a blower and the Ryobi leaf vacuum since it mulches leaves. I blow them into piles, and use the vacuum to mulch them for disposal or whatever else.

Choose a corner of your yard and start a brush pile. Blow leaves there year after year along with sticks and branches. They will break down pretty quickly.

Or just mow twice a week to keep up with the falling leaves.

Using a riding mower with a bagging attachment twice a week works for me once they start falling like that.

Thanks for all the responses everyone! Looks like we need to shop for some equipment to manage these leaves!

A walk-behind leaf blower really helps me.

The wind… we’ve had 20-30mph winds with gusts up to 50mph for the past two days. It helped; all my neighbors’ leaves are in my yard now, and their yards are clean.

We use a cyclone rake.

We used to spend a week cleaning up, but the cyclone yard rake takes about 3-4 hours.

It’s a pull-behind with its own motor for suction, and our mower’s mulching deck plumbs into the rake’s suction tube. It works great. It even picks up walnuts and other debris.

Regarding mulching the leaves, is it too much for the yard come spring? Mulching sounds easiest, but I’m worried about damaging the lawn in spots with too much mulch.

@Hadden
It’s not too much to mulch at all. The automod comment has more details.

I don’t know what mower you have, but my yard gets like this, and I just use my 60-inch zero-turn mower, going over it repeatedly until the leaves turn into dust. You could get special mulching blades, but I’ve never needed to. I have 6 acres with about 10 large Silver Maples, and this method works for me.

I’d move, just joking.

The way my job does it is to pre-blow all the leaves off driveways and flower beds to clear a path for the mower. Then, if there’s a tree line nearby, mulch the leaves towards the tree line until they are all gone. If there is no tree line, then just mulch them up as best as you can.

You could get a leaf collector for a larger area? I use one for my yard.

This is really bad for the environment and may be illegal where you are, so I wouldn’t recommend doing that.

I’m all for mulching the leaves into the lawn for the nitrogen and other nutrients.
