How did my neighbors lawn get to look like this?

NW Pennsylvania, the other side of the house looks normal, but not this side…

that’s all grub damage

and the animals that love grubs: voles, moles, groundhogs, skunks, possum, trash pandas, they all tear up the lawn looking for the tasty vittles

solution is grub preventer next year. and it is likely what the solid delineation is from-- other side of the house used grub killer. or sunlight falls on it in a way that grubs don’t like.

@Lex
That’s actually wild

Grubs and things eating grubs. I’ll never not put down grub killer again, amazing the destruction that duo can do.

Is there a limit though? Like once you defeat them you start to do it every 3 years instead of yearly?

WTF Kyle. Why are you posting pictures of my house on social media? It was bad enough when you married my daughter.

Either way, it’s grubs. The grubs come up in late summer and eat the roots of the grass. Other animals in turn dig up and eat the grubs. The combination completely trashes a yard

If it’s all grubs, how come it’s just the one spot and the rest of the yard and all the neighbors don’t have it?

Grubs. See the birds? They’re eating the grubs. Or his grass seed if he put some down to repair the damage.

Not that I had a great lawn or anything close to it, but I found out about grubs the hard way this year lol. Made me rip up half of my yard that was completely dead and now I’m obsessed with trying to fix it. I wish I realized what was happening sooner.

@Birch
Same. I kept throwing more water at it because it looked dry. Was very sad when it rolled up like a rug. :sob:

Alot of yards here in Illinois had bad grub damage, including mines. I forgot to put down grubex and man did I pay the price, not that bad though.

)(*&%#!@# GRUBS! My arch nemesis.

I’m learning I have grub damage from the responses here. Does anyone have a good way to remedy all the tunnels and torn up bits? Yard rake to level it?
