Has anyone in the Raleigh North Carolina area (Wake County) used Black Beauty (original) before
I am curious if it’s suitable for this climate. I didn’t see the seed cultivars listed on the NCSU (edu) best cultivars for NC but maybe BB just hasn’t been tested yet
My yard mostly has tall fescue with some Bermuda invading and has faced issues recently with brown patch and dollar diseases, plus it partially died during the long drought earlier this summer. I want to introduce a new tall fescue strain that may handle heat, disease, and low water better
Maybe I’m just picky or biased but I don’t get why anyone wouldn’t just use TCS. That Black Beauty in a 50lb bag on Amazon is $225. Resilience 2 is $215 on TCS

@Charlie
If I’m not wrong, TCS usually has higher NTEP scores for TTTF. Not that GCI is bad though. I think between them United and TCS, you’re probably just splitting hairs at that point and it’s about preference
But that commentary doesn’t fit my view. GCI is terrible and ruins lawns while TCS gives you a perfect lawn with no effort. Go TCS /s
@Hollis
Yeah I’ve seen their studies. Some good stuff but some of it’s confusing and I don’t fully understand to trust my money on it. So I did the next best thing and called my state extension and talked through it. GCI TTTF is what we went with. I didn’t split a single hair. I relied on the best local info I could find
@Charlie
GCI is good seed. Pete uses almost top cultivars to lower the cost but the value is really good. The only thing that sways me is the sales Twin City has. If you stack a 20% off coupon with free shipping, it’s pretty hard to beat
@Hollis
TCS has been my go-to for seed the last two years. I used JG KBG blend as an overseed on my midnight and I ended up with light green in the mix. Their branding suggested it was a dark green kbg which in my experience was not the case. Ended up pre-germinating TCS midnight blend last year and overseeded to try and counter the light green JG

It’s convenient to find Black Beauty at the local hardware store

And Resilience 2 is the best choice for the issues the person who posted this has been facing
