DIY Scott's spreader wheel guards

DIY fix is to throw it in the garbage.

You need to actually place the cardboard horizontally right underneath the shooter to stop the constant drop from creating tiger stripe lines.

3D print them. You’ll be a millionaire. (Okay, maybe not.)

@Roan
I was just about to say the spreader portion needs to be raised or have smaller wheels. I was going to see if I could design an adapter.

Looks like someone already did! Thanks! :+1:

I’ve been thinking about punching a hole and turning mine around so the solid part is on the inside.

Is it installed correctly? Is it missing a piece? That seems like a big mistake for a company to make. I have a cheap Scott’s one like that, but it works well enough. My first one was a hand spreader, and I like it a lot because I have more control over the seed. Be ready to refill it often, though. I only got a push one because it was a gift.

I think the hubcaps go on the outside. It would look good with white walls.

Did the exact same mod a few weeks ago except I found some coated cardboard. Let’s face it, the spreader is a POS even after the mod. It really struggles when filled to the brim, and ultimately, the spreader only works well with small granular fertilizer. I’ll be getting a proper spreader next season.

It still doesn’t throw it over the wheels, MacGyver.

Can you flip the wheel around the other way so the flatter side is inside?

So does the cardboard make it go faster or something?

Like many, I have the same spreader and faced the same problem. My solution, which I learned a couple of years ago on this forum, was to simply remove that orange piece.

Problem solved 100% without modifying the wheels.

@Aza
Yes, 100%

Well, the orange piece AND the green housing. If you take off the orange piece, removing the green housing is just an extra tiny step.
