How did you aerate? I’m thinking the easiest way would be with the spiky shoe attachments or the spike tool.

I rented an aerator from Home Depot.

I really have to promote going for core aeration instead of spikes. The spikes make holes but only move the soil to the side without creating space. Core aeration pulls plugs out, creating space.
Did you dethatch at all?

Yeah, I forgot to mention that. I dethatched first, then aerated, and finally overseeded.

When do you feed during this process? I sprayed a couple weeks ago, so I’m waiting a few more weeks to seed. When should I feed?
@Emerson
I put down starter fertilizer with the seed. I’ll probably add the fall fertilizer in a couple weeks. It’s been unusually warm here in September.

Yeah, I just got a heat advisory. Your lawn looks amazing. Trying to give my lawn some real attention this fall, and I’m super jealous.
@Emerson
Thanks! And good luck!
Is this your first time overseeding? If not, how many years have you done it?

This is my second year of overseeding. The first time was in September 2023. The lawn was new sod in summer 2022.
Clearly too much overseeding and aeration… a dog popped out
