For post-emergent weed control, wait until weeds have emerged, like they are now. Pre-emergent should be applied in the spring, typically when snow melts. Fertilizer can be applied now if needed, or combined with your pre-emergent.

No, this isn’t sod; it’s grown from seeds. Does post-emergent kill the surrounding grass?
The post-emergent you should use will be SELECTIVE. It won’t harm your grass. Always check the label to confirm it’s safe for your grass type. Avoid any non-selective option like Roundup.
I would wait until spring for weed control, but most recommend against weed and feed. A liquid 3-way herbicide combined with a separate fertilizer is a better option.

@Avi
I use Bio Advance for all broadleaf weeds. Many people like Speedzone, but I haven’t tried it yet. The issue is that weed and feed typically uses granular weed control, while liquid forms are more effective. Just pick a fertilizer you need, and you’ll be better off with that approach.
