Trimmers that make changing line easy

Are there any trimmers out there in Australia that don’t have those frustrating pop-release line heads? They might be simple to release but I really dislike loading them.

I had a budget Homelite trimmer that allowed me to change the line in about 15 seconds, which was fantastic. But it broke down, and I can’t find one for sale anymore.

I’ve tried a STHIL, and changing the line was a hassle. Now I’ve got a Lincoln, which is a brand from the USA, but it struggles and feels weak.

I’ve had no problems with my Ryobi One 18V from Bunnings. It has an automatic release instead of a bump head. You just insert the new line holder when you need it and you are good to go.

I have one of these on my Sthil and it’s easy to load new line. I bought it at a farm store as a replacement head after my old one got damaged.

You can find a speed feed head at your local mower shop, not Bunnings. It comes with different threads for various brands and costs about $70.

If you want a high-quality trimmer to use with it, Honda has some powered by the GX25. I actually have 2 UMC425 for my business, and it has different attachments to do a lot of jobs.

Have you tried the Echo Speed-Feed? After a bit of practice, it’s easy to use compared to a STHIL head.

They sell Homelite trimmers at Bunnings.

I think they used to have them but not anymore. It’s not listed on their website, just some Homelite accessories.

I use a STHIL. It has a quick feed system, but I never really figured it out. However, it only takes me a few minutes to do. I might change the line 4 or 5 times a year, just for trimming around the house, so I’m not using much… I prioritize quality over ease.

Why not just get a replacement head?

Whippersnipper is such a fun word to say.

I changed mine to one that holds the 1.44 mm line. I buy a pack of pre-cut pieces that just insert in. Plus, they last way longer.
