Should I be concerned about mushrooms popping up in my lawn? Could it be a sign of overwatering?
Here’s some background: I had buffalo turf laid in November, just as summer started here in Melbourne, Australia. I’ve been watering it heavily as recommended to help it establish, and it’s doing great—I’m now mowing twice a week to keep up with its growth.
About three weeks ago, I fed it some Buffalo Seasol, and around a week ago, I started noticing mushrooms appearing. Do I need to take any action? If they’re showing up in summer, should I be worried about what might happen in winter?
It’s fine and typically a sign of healthy soil. I wouldn’t suggest using fungicide and messing with the soil composition. Just mow over them and they will go away.

Yeah, spreading the spores will actually be a good thing. The fact that they’re there means you have an abundance of nitrogen, so the grass will probably do great.

That’s good to know.
I’m a complete novice when it comes to garden care. I’ve just spent a ton on landscaping and want to make sure I look after it!
They don’t harm grass. Pathogenic fungi (fungi that cause diseases) do not produce mushrooms.
In fact, mushrooms are a great sign. Mushrooms are simply the fruits of a larger network of fungi in the soil. These fungi are fantastic for the health of a lawn… They decompose dead organic matter, especially wood and thatch, far more effectively than other microbes. (Very few microbes, besides fungi, can decompose lignin)
So, don’t try to kill mushrooms with fungicides… It won’t work in the long term, but you will do long term damage to the health of your lawn. However, you can pull mushrooms if you don’t like the appearance.
P.s. Most mushrooms are not toxic, and most dogs won’t eat mushrooms… Though, both are possible. As such, if you’re worried, just remove them by hand and call it a day. Mushrooms are extremely difficult to identify and you’re almost certainly not going to receive an accurate identification in this subreddit.
They are part of a healthy new lawn that is getting enough water. Do not listen to poster Above saying fungicide, you dont need it they will go away on their own.
