I’m trying to ID the grass on the street-side strip out front. It’s definitely not buffalo or couch—was thinking it might be kikuyu since it’s commonly used by councils and cost-effective.
Also had a question about Sir Grange Zoysia. Since it doesn’t take well by seed compared to other propagation methods, I haven’t been able to find seed for sale. Does anyone know a place that sells it?
Don’t get Sir Grange. I’ve got a customer with it and it’s the worst.
Spreads super slow so if it gets damaged it looks fucked for ages. If you let it get too long between cuts it scalps super easy and makes the mower bog down.
It looks good but unless you’re cutting it every week is a pain in the arse.
@Jem
What’s a similar alternative? I’ve used tiff tuff and like it, but the front yard which I’m doing is fairly shady, not awfully, maybe 4 hours of sun for the worst spots. 0 traffic tho so damage is no issue, and I don’t mind frequent mowing.
Zoysia has a very low germination rate, so even if you could find seed, it’d be mostly worthless. Even just seeding a bald patch fails. I’ve seen online Zoysia seed strains in the US that claim to germinate, but no idea if that’s true.
