KBG Sodded 5 Days Ago and Leaves Already Falling... What Shud Do?

Hello guys…

I’m a newbie homeowner and just had Kentucky Bluegrass sod installed 5 days ago. Of course, now the leaves are starting to fall, and I’m not sure what to do about it.
Am pretty sure I can’t rake the leaves without risking damage to the new sod, but what’s the alternative? Would a leaf blower be a good option, or is there something else I should be doing?

I need to keep watering the grass, but I’m worried the leaves will block the water from reaching the roots.

Keep watering. Just blow the leaves off or suck them up when you mow. The leaves won’t cause any issues unless they start blocking out all the light.

Right now, this amount of leaves isn’t a problem.

A leaf blower is probably your gentlest option. There are also leaf vacuums you can use (Ryobi sells one). I wouldn’t mow or rake with the new sod.

You can snag a cheap Ryobi leaf blower for around $150. A 4Ah battery will easily cover the area you need. I’ve had one for years as a backup to my Echo 770T backpack blower, and I mainly use it for my deck and planting beds during the growing season.

…and hey …when choosing a blower, focus more on the CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) rather than the MPH.

I don’t think you need to worry about this unless the leaves come down a lot thicker. What the picture is showing should not cause any problems.

I read “KGB” and was like, “In Soviet Russia, grass sods you”

Glad it gave you a laugh   Sometimes the best jokes come from a little mix-up. If you need any more help or just want to share a chuckle, I’m here…
