Hi everyone, this is my first time seeding a lawn. The grass was growing well, all green and thick. I just mowed it for the first time, but now it looks brown and seems to be dying. Did I cut it too short? I’d really appreciate any advice!..
What’s your location?
What’s the lawn type?
How hot has it been in your area lately?
What’s your watering schedule?
What’s your height of cut?
How long ago did you cut?

Canberra
Garden Basics All-Purpose Lawn Seed from Bunnings
30-32°C average heat
I water every afternoon
I have a basic lawn mower with 3 height adjustments, and I cut with the lowest option.
I spread the seeds 2 months ago.
@Lane
You poor sod.
That lawn seed is a mix of rye grasses and fescue, so I’m not surprised patches are dying in the heat. They should do better in the cooler months.
If it only has 3 height settings, it’s probably a small electric unit. Cut at the highest setting and make sure to cut (and this is crucial) weekly. You need to do this because they struggle if you let the length get too long.
@Rory
Do you recommend anything to fix them? Should I buy any other better seeds suitable for Canberra and overseed?

You’re probably better off consulting a local landscaper, or check out r/Canberra. They’d understand your soil and climate better; I’m in Perth.
@Rory
Thank you anyway.
