Does anyone know what kind of grass this is?

The apartment complex that I live in in Georgia had the maintenance team put out a grass seed about 2 weeks back that has grown into a very beautiful grass, and I was wondering if anyone might know what kind of grass it is? I want to buy some seed to grow a little patch on my desk with a grow light like a miniature lawn.

This grass …coold be…???/ let ask anexpart

Based on the growth and texture, it is likely a Rye. My guess would be Annual Rye because it is inexpensive and grows quickly.

Even if it were a perennial rye, you likely live in a warmer climate zone, so growing cool-season grass this late in the year means it will likely die by summer without a lot of shade and water. It is not very heat tolerant.

Disclaimer: I’m no expert. You should ask the landscaper when they mow this week.

I agree, very likely rye. It would work great for OP’s intention of creating a desk lawn!

That’s a cool idea I hadn’t thought of! I plan to do that one of these days.

@Flynn
It’s fun, and you’ll learn a lot about grass by doing it.

Rye is the only type I know that grows that fast in two weeks.

Did they do any digging or work in the area where it was planted?

They simply scattered the seeds after mowing about two weeks ago. We also had a significant amount of rain this week, and the complex has a nightly sprinkler system.

That is most definitely annual ryegrass.

Is it shaded or in full sun?

Ah, that’s that Trump hair grass.

Lol!

That looks kind of too long.
