Do you also hand lay every granule evenly spaced on your lawn?
Did you just smoke your yard with the wrong product?
You just posted about it
Yeah good point lol.

And measured with calipers of course.
I used to do it when I first started, but now I just kinda eyeball it as I’ve done it plenty of times.
Yeah the first few times. Now I know how much 5 lbs fills up the bucket so I eyeball it.
I did once… burnt my grass!!
What’s the reason for this?
How else do you know how much you’re putting down per SqFt?

Use the recommended spreader setting for your particular fert. Fill the spreader and go.
If you can’t find the setting. Weigh it once, remember the setting you used, then next time fill the spreader and go.
@Galen
Let me know what fert bags have the spreader setting for the RB-60 on them because Scott’s doesn’t (and I’ve got a bunch of Scott’s fert).
I have my yard broken down into sections where I know the SqFt. I put the correct weight of fert in the spreader and do that portion of the yard. It’s pretty simple.
@Teegan
If you can’t find the spreader setting, see comment two.
No. Toss it out, make sure water amount is close to what’s needed… pray to the grass gods.
Ain’t nobody got time for that! I just sling it and it usually works out.
100%. Technically I don’t measure, as I have a scoop with a known amount going in, so it is a measure of sorts, but only because I already know what each scoop gives me for various products.
I recommend a fishing scale. I have a digital one and it’s great. I use a bucket and break each section out that way and calculate my desired NPK. This way I can apply .5-.8 N per 1000 sqft and spread my fert in multiple applications to reach at least 2 lbs-ish of N annually.
No…it doesn’t have to be exact. My neighbor puts his setting on 7 no matter what and goes. Lawn looks great…He goes through 24,000 sqft rated bags on his 15,000 sqft lawn and never has burn.
I use a 16 oz cup to scoop what I need when I need to be ‘precise’ with my applications. Believe it or not it always seems to come out pretty close to 16 oz on the scale so I just stopped weighing it. When I’m done it lives in the bag until the next application.
I have a container with marks for each product and each section of yard.
I weigh once, mark the container, and good enough moving forward to use the same marks.
Absolutely. Otherwise you’re just hoping you have your settings and pace right! Also want to know how much nitrogen I’m applying at each application.
Yes, to get a rate. Mainly only do liquid, so a little different.
