I scalped, dethatched, aerated, overseeded, and fertilized my lawn on Saturday. I’ve been watering it frequently, but now leaves are starting to fall. What’s the best way to clear them without disturbing the new seed? I’m guessing using a leaf blower gently is the way to go, but I wanted to check if there are any better practices.
Leave the leaves where they are and mulch them into the lawn in the spring. Fallen leaves create a habitat for helpful insects and add carbon to your soil, which is good for it.
Did you pick up the aeration cores before seeding?
People used to cover newly seeded grass with straw, so I don’t see why a few leaves would cause any harm.
I see your leaves and raise you buckets of acorns.
I wouldn’t worry about it. The wind will move the leaves around enough that individual seedlings shouldn’t have any problems.
That doesn’t look like many leaves. I’d do nothing for now. My turf guys say to use a blower if the leaves start covering the ground…just use a low angle and minimal force to blow them off.
Fallen leaves are like little umbrellas for baby grass sprouts ……
I lightly rake the leaves and remove any large green ones that are stuck. I haven’t used my blower yet.
