1 Week Lawn Transformation

"Here’s my 1-week transformation of the rental backyard:

I turned over the original soil using a garden fork, gave it a good soak, spread some drought-resistant seed, and topped it off with fresh topsoil. I’ve been watering twice a day for about 10 minutes each time.

It’s coming along nicely! Just a few patches left, but I’m hoping they’ll fill in soon."

Looking good! I would aerate it though and seed it one more time. It looks a lot better than it did.

I might plant some more seed and topsoil in certain areas. Not sure I want to buy an aerator, but we will see.

@Zev
You could just get the aerator shoe cover. It doesn’t work as well as the machine, but for such a small area, it would work fine.

What type of grass is ‘drought proof seed’?

It was a mix box:

  • Perennial Rye 42%
  • Annual Rye 32%
  • Unhulled Couch 15%
  • Creeping Red Fescue 5%
  • Kentucky Bluegrass 6%

@Zev
Shit, that’s the box from Bunnings, isn’t it? Looking at the lawn that was there before (albeit from afar), please post some close-up pics to confirm. I’m going to guess your previous lawn was actually Kikuyu.
